LEARN MORE ABOUT ST. VITUS CHURCH & PARISH
SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL
Slovenian culture has consistently been an integral and enriching part of parish life at St. Vitus. For over 60 years, with the guidance of a teaching staff and parents, children have been enrolling in Slovenian language classes.
The primary purpose of the School is to preserve the Slovenian language, customs, and traditions by instilling in children a sense of pride and love for the Slovenian heritage. Open to any child willing to accept the School curriculum and program, classes are typically in session from the third Saturday in September to the third Saturday in May each calendar year.
St. Vitus’ Slovenian Language School is also welcome to adults in a separate program, whether they are new to the language or even for those looking to revisit it. Instead of meeting every Saturday like the children’s school, this program meets twice a month, on Saturday mornings, from fall to spring months.
To enroll in our Slovenian Language School as an adult student, please contact Tom Kastelic at (216) 394-7066.
MIHEVC GRANT PROGRAM
Since 1989, due to the generosity of the late Mr. Edward L. Mihevic Sr. and his family, St. Vitus Parish has been able to provide scholarships to registered parishioners who attend tuition-paying schools.
Eligible schools include, primarily, Catholic elementary and secondary schools, and both private and public universities up to senior year. Guidelines of this parish program are outlined in a brochure provided upon request.
Any individual desiring to participate in this parish program must be a bona fide registered parishioner at St. Vitus for a minimum of two consecutive years.
For additional information, please contact the parish secretary at (216) 361-1444.
As part of the Mihevc Grant Program, qualifying parishioners are required to participate in service opportunities around St. Vitus Church, ranging from charitable work to assisting at parish community functions. To learn more, please visit our Volunteer section.
ST. VITUS SCHOOL ALUMNI
St. Vitus School Alumni is an organization for individuals who have graduated or attended St. Vitus School or St. Vitus Slovenian School.
About the Alumni Organization
This parish organization was founded in 1987 to allow individuals to maintain and renew ties with their alma maters, either St. Vitus Elementary School, St. Vitus Saturday Language School, or both. Any individual who either attended or graduated from one or both schools is eligible to join this organization.
Meetings are usually held on a quarterly basis with election of officers usually held in the fall. This organization inducts into its “Hall of Fame” individuals who have made a significant contribution to the parish and/or society. The Society also provides a scholarship for approved high school freshmen entering a Catholic high school.
