Update: Coronavirus, St. Vitus Parish
To All:
First, Good and great news! Our parishioner, Matt Dolinar, has safely returned from a Mission trip to Honduras last night. He was “tested” and all is good. Matt is a senior at Franciscan University of Steubenville and was with a group of students,performing many good corporal and spiritual works of mercy on this Mission trip. Matt: good to have you back home, safe and sound.
Second, at the directive announced yesterday through the Office of the Governor of the State of Ohio, effective 11:59PM today (MARCH 23,2020) a large number of businesses, persons, sole proprietors, etc., are to be “stay at home” for the NEXT TWO WEEKS< until April 6, 2020. Only those enterprises, businesses, not-for-profits, etc., deemed as “essential” are permitted to continue in operation.
“Religious” or “charitable” institutions operating a food bank or other as well as a “funeral” or “wedding” are deemed as essential per this order. Regarding a funeral, almost exclusively this order the “Rite of Committal,” meaning a graveside service only, would be permitted. Unless there is an emergency and compelling reason(s), the sacrament of Marriage is for now on hold. In either occurrence, a gathering of no more than ten (10) people would be permitted to attend per the above order.
Third, there will be at least one (1) person in the rectory, March 24, to April 6, 2020, 9:00AM-to-1:00PM, MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY.
Fourth, blessed palms will be available to all, registered or non-registered parishioner, at the west entrance (in that vestibule area only) of St. Vitus Church (this is the Mary side of the church). Blessed palms will be available APRIL 3 (FRIDAY) and APRIL 4 (SATURDAY), 9:00AM-to-Noon. No admittance however will be permitted inside the church.
Fifth, blessing of Easter food baskets will occur HOLY SATURDAY, APRIL 11, 2020 at Noon and at 1:00PM. Food baskets are to be placed on the front church steps. In regards to parking the following:
Parking is available in a.) school parking lot, b.) back auditorium parking lot, c.) on the streets, d.) side parking of St Vitus Village (on Lausche Avenue), and e.) if needed, the main parking lot in St. Vitus Village (on East 61st St side). Please remain considerate of all who will attend either Easter Food Basket blessing. Parking WILL NOT be available in the church parking lot due to construction work.
Sixth, the most current bulletin with Masses and Mass intentions, letter from the pastor, Rev. Joseph P. Boznar, and prayer card, were all mailed out March 21, 2020 to all registered parish households. Read and review the contents of bulletin and letter from Rev. Boznar. All are requested to continue the Sunday financial support in the best manner possible.
