Holy Week 2017 at St. Vitus, Apr. 8th – 16th

Holy Week. One of the most sacred and spiritually up-lifting weeks in the liturgical and calendar year. The week begins with Palm Sunday, Apr. 9, 2017  Weekend Masses are Saturday, 4:00PM (4/8/17) and Sunday 9AM and 10:30AM (4/9/17). This year marks the 50th Year of the annual Palm Sunday benefit dinner. This will be held in the parish auditorium. Sit-down and take-out sinners will be available, 11AM-to-1:30PM.

“Tenebrae” service will be held on Apr. 12 (Wed.) beginning at 7:30PM. Tenebrae in Latin means  “shadows” or “darkness.” This is a distinct religious service held in the evening before Holy Thursday with prayers, reading of psalms, and singing or chanting. Tenebrae in St. Vitus Church is in English, Latin and Slovenian. A unique feature of this service is the gradual extinguishing of candles.

Holy Thursday (Apr. 13, 2017) includes Mass of The Lord’s Supper at 7:30PM followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the church.

Good Friday (Apr. 14, 2017) will have Confessions from 2:30PM-to-3:00PM, Stations of the Cross at 3:00PM and Celebration of the Lord’s Passion and Death at 7:30PM.

Holy Saturday (Apr. 15, 2017) will have two opportunities for Blessing of Easter Food: 1:00PM and 3:00PM. Confessions on Holy Saturday will be 2:30PM-3:00PM and also 2:30PM-3:00PM. Easter Vigil Mass will be at 8:30PM.

Easter Sunday (Apr. 16,2017) will have Mass of The Resurrection of Our Lord at 7:00AM and and Mass at 10:00AM.

Secured parking will be in the church parish parking lot across the street from St. Vitus Church during Holy Week.
