125th Anniversary Celebration
Observance of the founding of St. Vitus Parish, established as the first American Slovenian Roman Catholic parish in the state of Ohio & diocese of Cleveland
September 30th, 2018
There were three events that occurred on this day: blessing and dedication of Joseph House of Cleveland Inc., a corporal work of mercy that St. Vitus Parish along with three other Catholic parishes has been involved over the past ten years, Solemn Mass in St. Vitus Church and then banquet at Slovenian National Home after the Solemn Mass.

Joseph House of Cleveland Inc., was officially blessed and dedicated on September 30, 2018 by The Most Reverend Nelson Perez, Bishop, Diocese of Cleveland.
Assisting Bishop Perez at this event were Rev. David Woost, pastor, Divine Word Parish (Kirtland), and Rev. Mr. Carl Varga, permanent deacon at Divine Word Parish. Four Catholic parishes, Immaculate Conception, St. Paul Croatian, St. Vitus and Divine Word, are engaged in the two principal corporate works of mercy of JHCI: resettlement of incoming immigrants to Cleveland, Ohio and clothing distribution by appointment to all immigrants and local residents.
The current location of 6108 St. Clair Avenue was blessed and dedicated after a year of fund raising, demolition of the interior and then remodeling of the interiors. This endeavor was privately funded by individuals, organizations, and private foundations at a cost of nearly $48,000. Michelle O’Donnell is director of operations, JHCI.
